Robert may have killed Rhaegar, but Rhaegar was the true winner because he has Lyanna's love and they have a child together who is the true king.
And I don't believe Robert ever loved Lyanna, I mean during Robert's rebellion when when he and Ned were off to rescue Lyanna, Robert was whoring himself in many brothels, how could he do that when he says he is in love with Lyanna?
To me even if he married Lyanna, the marriage would be awful and Lyanna would leave him and not bear him children. And Robert would still become a miserable man, thankfully Lyanna was spared that fate and she got to be with the man she loved in the world and in the afterlife.
